Refute raises £5 million seed round to advance AI‑powered counter‑disinformation capabilities

Refute has raised £5m in seed funding to accelerate its mission to protect organisations and democracies from the rapidly evolving landscape of disinformation. 

The round was led by deep‑tech specialist Amadeus Capital Partners, with participation from NSSIF, Playfair, Episode 1, and Osney Capital.

Founded by a team with more than forty years’ experience building technologies to counter terrorist attacks and financial crime, Refute, a UK company, is responding to the growing sophistication of disinformation. Threat actors are increasingly blending bot farms with influencers, deploying agentic AI for end‑to‑end automation, and targeting commercial organisations alongside governments.

Refute’s platform detects early‑stage signals of online manipulation and provides intelligence and recommended response strategies at the pace of the attackers. This helps governments and commercial organisations strengthen their resilience, protect their operations, and outpace sophisticated disinformation campaigns.
