Archangel Lightworks raises £10m + Series A to accelerate deployable laser communications
Archangel Lightworks has raised over £10 million in an oversubscribed Series A round to deliver high‑speed, secure, communications between space and terrestrial networks.
The round was led by Santander Alternative Investments, with participation from NSSIF, Blackfinch Ventures, Oxford Capital, Lycka Limited and Oxford Science Enterprises.
Laser communications are becoming increasingly important as demand for high‑bandwidth, resilient data links grows across commercial, civil and defence applications. Traditional radio‑frequency systems face constraints around spectrum access, data rates and security. Optical links offer a high‑volume, secure alternative - enabling new capabilities for broadband constellations, orbital data centres and space‑based sensing.
Archangel Lightworks is developing Gigabits+ and future Terabits+ laser link capacity, with the TERRA‑M providing a compact, deployable optical ground station that can be rapidly positioned where connectivity is needed. The system supports dual‑use missions including digital inclusion, quantum‑secure communications and persistent planetary monitoring.
The funding will support the company as it scales deployment of TERRA‑M and expands its suite of laser communications technologies.
NSSIF is pleased to support Archangel Lightworks as it develops next‑generation optical communications infrastructure that strengthens the resilience, security and performance of global data networks.
